The Geoscientist’s Workbench

No install required, stay in your browser, work on any device.

GeoCloud brings the Geoscience Analytics apps together in one place. They run the checks and plots that usually live in spreadsheets and desktop programs, on the same Excel and CSV exports from your database, with every method explained.

A Cloud QC CUSUM chart: lead results for a reference material reading high for months, then low, crossing both control lines.

Cloud QC

QC assay data: standards, blanks and duplicates, from one upload. A lab performance dashboard, accuracy and precision charts.

A 3D lower-hemisphere stereonet with Kamb density contours of bedding poles.

Cloud Structural Analysis

Orientation data from mapping and oriented core: stereonets with contours, rose diagrams, orientation sets and drillholes in 3D.

Stereonet data: Geological Survey of Victoria, CC BY 4.0
A strip log of an illustrative drillhole: lithology, weathering, structure dips, RQD, gold on a log scale with a 12 m at 2.4 g/t intercept, and copper.

Cloud Strip Logs

Drillhole logs side by side down the hole: lithology, structure and assays on one depth scale.

I am a geologist, QA/QC specialist and learning strategist with over 40 years in Australian mining and exploration. I previously ran Geoscience Analytics Limited, where I built data management and analysis solutions for the industry. I have worked for organisations including BHP Minerals, BHP Iron Ore and acQuire Technology Solutions, in roles spanning Senior Resource Geologist, Principal Geologist, Learning Specialist and QC Adviser.

I completed my Honours degree at Macquarie University under the supervision of Professor Chris Powell.

Cloud QC grew out of my long-standing interest in data quality, developed alongside articles and posts I published on LinkedIn. It is a browser-based application, requiring no installation, built around the QAQC methods used in mining and exploration: a broad set of charts and statistics for reviewing precision, accuracy and blank performance in assay data.

However, as a structural geologist, I felt the need for a similar browser-based solution, and so, the Geoscientist’s Workbench developed. A place for geoscientists to work.
